An integrated, one-stop clinic for patients experiencing pain in their lower back area, often caused by urinary stones.

The Renal Colic Clinic provides same-day diagnostic testing, with treatment planning typically completed within a few days of referral.

The Renal Colic Clinic is an Allevia Health Journey and developed in partnership between Allevia Health, Allevia Radiology, and Urology Institute specialists from OneSixOne Medical Group.

FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions are provided for your convenience.  If you have a question that isn’t covered here, please contact us at [email protected]

I’m a GP. Can I refer patients directly to Allevia Radiology for imaging?

Yes. If you’re a GP, you can refer patients with renal colic directly to Allevia Radiology for imaging. Please make sure the referral clearly states ‘The Renal Colic Clinic’ so the patient is booked for an emergency CT and seen promptly by our urologists.

Do I need a referral?

Yes. Your GP or an urgent care doctor can refer you to The Renal Colic Clinic if you’re experiencing flank pain from renal colic. You can also be referred directly to Allevia Radiology for a walk-in CT scan, but your referral details must include ‘The Renal Colic Clinic’.

I’m not a Southern Cross or nib member, but I’m interested in The Renal Colic Clinic. Can I still be referred?

Yes. The Renal Colic Clinic supports all patients, regardless of their insurance provider. Please check your insurance policy to understand what is covered. You can also refer to the Insurance section for more details.

How long will it take to get a diagnosis?

The Renal Colic Clinic, led by Urology Institute specialists, prioritises timely diagnosis. You can typically receive a diagnosis within a few days of your referral.

Is treatment necessary?

Your assessment begins with a CT scan at Allevia Radiology. After the scan, you’ll have a flexible cystoscopy at OneSixOne, which is a minor procedure performed in a clinic setting. Your urologist will discuss your results with you on the same day as your cystoscopy and talk trough whether treatment is required.
