Providing dedicated, specialist-led care for people diagnosed with bladder cancer.

The Bladder Cancer Clinic provides comprehensive care for people with a confirmed bladder cancer diagnosis, reducing unnecessary appointments and wait times by coordinating surgery, treatment, and ongoing support.

The Bladder Cancer Clinic is part of an Allevia Health Journey and was developed through a partnership between Allevia Health and Urology Institute specialists from OneSixOne Medical Group. Its purpose is to provide dedicated, specialist-led care for people diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Patients who have symptoms such as haematuria (blood in the urine), can first be referred to the Haematuria Clinic, which is the diagnostic service run by OneSixOne. If bladder cancer is detected, they then move seamlessly into the Bladder Cancer Clinic for treatment, ensuring continuity of care throughout their journey.

Why choose the Bladder Cancer Clinic

  • Comprehensive bladder cancer care

The Bladder Cancer Clinic is New Zealand’s only private service that provides on-site cystoscopies, TURBT procedures, BCG instillations (immunotherapy) and specialist consultations, all in one place.

  • Timely access to appointments and treatment

Early management is critical. Treatment can typically begin within two weeks of diagnosis.

  • Personalised treatment plans

Every patient’s situation is unique, so each care plan is tailored to their individual needs.

The bladder cancer journey step-by-step

1

1. Diagnosis

The process begins with a diagnosis, either through the Haematuria Clinic or from another referring specialist.

2

2. Further testing – TURBT

A Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT) is performed to determine the stage and risk level of the cancer.

3

3. Multidisciplinary meeting

A team, including a urologist, radiologist, radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, and a nurse, reviews the results to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

4

First consultation with urologist

A urologist will review the MRI results with the patient and determine if a biopsy is necessary for further testing.

5

4. Treatment planning with the urologist

The patient meets with the urologist to discuss recommended treatment options.

6

5. Treatment

Specialists deliver a personalised treatment plan based on the patient’s needs and clinical findings.

7

6. Post-treatment support

After treatment, patients may meet with a urologist, nurse specialist and/or physiotherapist for follow-up care and support.

8

Monitoring

Ongoing monitoring is carried out by a urologist to ensure the cancer is managed. Regular tests may be required as part of the monitoring.

If you’re insured with Southern Cross or nib, OneSixOne can help arrange prior approval for your appointments and most bladder related tests and procedures.

If you’re with another insurance provider, please check to confirm what’s covered. OneSixOne will provide a quote before your appointment, which then needs to be submitted to the insurer for approval.
